Project Description

Populous: the Faces of Bollington’ project

Inspired by a project from the Icelandic photographer Andlit Baejarins and the ‘Ljósop’ club of photographers in Reykjanesbær, Iceland – Simon Nottage (along with other members of Bollington Photographic Group) aimed to see if it would be possible to create a similar project for our community in Bollington.

Populous is a major photographic artwork project intended to capture the thousands of portraits of everyone living in Bollington. This project is intended to be a permanent work of art in its own right and will also form a historical record of the diversity of Bollington’s population. The completed work will be displayed in an exhibition and will be permanently kept for future generations and may be included in a future time capsule for the town.

Later this year, in an effort to record as many people as possible, pop-up photo studios will be appearing in various locations throughout Bollington.

Times and places will be posted on the towns’ notice boards and on social media. It will only take us a couple of moments of your time to take your portrait, so please keep a lookout for the studio and be sure to be part of this exciting new project.
