I’m not sure which comp I prefer of these two different shots. Taken Lantic bay last week, the colour and pattern of the foreground rock was amazing up close. Which do you prefer? I would have liked the tide a bit higher to get some movement around the rock but thems the conditions I had to work with.

What would you do differently or edit in a different way?

    Thanks

  • Both images are nicely layered – foreground, mid and distance (mirroring the three groups of rocks) this works well. I think my preference is for the landscape shot as you have more of a dramatic wide angle and with more movement in the wave visible. I like the colour in the rocks but I’ve tried it in black and white which i think looks more dramatic.

  • Good shout on the B&W 👍🏻 think I was too occupied on the blue of the water and the colour in the rock to even give it a thought.

  • I too love the texture of the foreground rock but feel that the close-up is a little too close. I would be tempted to take a ‘halfway house’ approach. My take is to keep the crop ratio the same, enlarge slightly and mask off the right hand of the shot and the sky. Enhance the rock’s texture, sharpness and colour slightly, but reduce the saturation of the sea so that it doesn’t pull your eye away from the subject.
