I’ve been experimenting with low-key images at Oak-Bank Mill pond. From Willowbank drive the dark water and opposite bank in shadow in the early morning make it ideal for trying this technique. Here are a few examples. Just set your exposure compensation (dial usually close to your righty thumb) to minus three and shoot the grey heron…

These initial photos will have been taken on a Samsung A 34 and apart from a wee bit of auto correct for light/colour/contrast and a bit of clipping, they are how I see the world in pictures.
These were taken in the Bay of Biscay, there was a flock of Seagulls dancing around the ship. The only light was from the lights at the bottom if the… Read more -

Some images taken today in Castlefield, Manchester on a walk with Kevin – we had fabulous sunshine. I have toned these using both Lightroom & Photoshop. The tritone effect is still too strong – I want to make it more subtle. The effect I am after is just a very slightly warmed-up black & white.

Finally, I thought it was about time that we had a place for our old Turners’ Photowall prize winners.
Still work in progress, but you will find our latest winners in the ‘Previous Winners Gallery’ section. There are still some older ones to populate, but I will have to reconstruct the old contests to be able to show the all important scores… -

For those of you who are curious about our next photowall contest subjects and dates going forward, I have introduced a few changes. At the head of the page you will find an accordion dropdown, listing not only our chosen subjects, but the dates for entry, submission and exhibitions as well – so there can be no excuse for not entering… -

I wanted to create a tritone image similar to some wonderfully toned B&W printed images in a book I own called ‘Ansel Adams at 100’. I wasn’t sure how to create the effect on my own image using Photoshop – so I asked ChatGPT how to go about doing this – (to be clear I wasn’t asking Ai to create it for me – I just wanted the…

Some recent photographs taken on my Africa trip. The first group are from the Cubango river, which partially in its course forms the boundary between Namibia and Angol. It crosses Namibia to form the Okavango Delta.
